Redefining Systems | Neurospicy Sessions
In this episode, I redefine what a system is and explain why it matters when starting from you. A system is a bunch of components or parts of a system that come together to do something. As a key component of a system, you gotta make sure that all the parts of you are supported! If the pieces don't fit together... your system can easily break down!

I speak a lot about systems when I talk to people.
Jonathan Stewart:and it's a really popular topic for business owners who want to scale, but
Jonathan Stewart:what actually is a system, although there are multiple definitions of systems.
Jonathan Stewart:The common one that I see, especially in the business world is a series
Jonathan Stewart:of apps you use to do a thing.
Jonathan Stewart:This is close.
Jonathan Stewart:And isn't wrong, but it is a little bit of an over-simplification
Jonathan Stewart:and lacks a ton of nuance.
Jonathan Stewart:So I want to bring that nuance back by redefining what a system is.
Jonathan Stewart:A system is a bunch of components or things that come together to do something.
Jonathan Stewart:A component can be anything from an application you use to another
Jonathan Stewart:system entirely and systems aren't just for business stuff.
Jonathan Stewart:One of the greatest components or pieces of my system is my Kettle,
Jonathan Stewart:that boils in less than 60 seconds.
Jonathan Stewart:That allows me to make sure I stay hydrated whenever I'm recording
Jonathan Stewart:podcast episodes or working, because otherwise I will forget.
Jonathan Stewart:The business you run going back, there is a system in itself.
Jonathan Stewart:It has a bunch of dynamic interacting components that come
Jonathan Stewart:together to create a business.
Jonathan Stewart:This includes your clients, your audience, your team, your marketing,
Jonathan Stewart:and a multitude of other things.
Jonathan Stewart:A system only works well when all the components are working together, when
Jonathan Stewart:all the components fit together in a way that serves the purpose of the system.
Jonathan Stewart:Why does that matter when starting from you?
Jonathan Stewart:It matters because you are a system and you are also a
Jonathan Stewart:component of a bigger system.
Jonathan Stewart:The purpose of a system can change and evolve as components are added or
Jonathan Stewart:removed, for example, a new team member arrives or someone leaves, but there
Jonathan Stewart:is always one component that doesn't really change and that's you, you are
Jonathan Stewart:a key component of the system and all of the pieces need to work together to
Jonathan Stewart:support the purpose that you define.
Jonathan Stewart:We are bombarded by hundreds of things every day, setting up a system that fits
Jonathan Stewart:your needs is super important but it's even more important that you don't forget
Jonathan Stewart:one of the key components of your system.
Jonathan Stewart:You.
Jonathan Stewart:Want to learn how to create a system that's built around
Jonathan Stewart:the most important component.
