Jonathan Stewart:

Now my flavor of neuro spicy behavior often means I end up

Jonathan Stewart:

focusing on the hyper specific pieces of advice that's given in business always

Jonathan Stewart:

looking for the context and realizing that so much of it is just not helpful.

Jonathan Stewart:

A good example of this is hustle culture versus anti hustle, culture

Jonathan Stewart:

hustle, culture, which is often seen as the standard in the business base

Jonathan Stewart:

is the one where you say you got to optimize everything in every part

Jonathan Stewart:

of your day don't play video games.

Jonathan Stewart:

otherwise you're lazy, everything has to have a purpose and lead you

Jonathan Stewart:

to be the ultimate you, you could be.

Jonathan Stewart:

They're not allowed to have days off.

Jonathan Stewart:

You've got to push through and feel the burn.

Jonathan Stewart:

Now, obviously I am overemphasizing here and will be throughout.

Jonathan Stewart:

But I digress

Jonathan Stewart:

then you've got the opposite, the anti hustlers!

Jonathan Stewart:

They exist to oppose everything that hustle culture states!

Jonathan Stewart:

You shouldn't push yourself too hard.

Jonathan Stewart:

You shouldn't overwork.

Jonathan Stewart:

You should manage your energy.

Jonathan Stewart:

You should do only a couple of things at a time and anyone or anything that pushes

Jonathan Stewart:

against that are harming themselves and are part of insert, specific belief system

Jonathan Stewart:

that opposes everything they stand for.

Jonathan Stewart:

and they should get off your feed!

Jonathan Stewart:

Now.

Jonathan Stewart:

as an autistic business owner.

Jonathan Stewart:

This sucks because I'm actually looking at both sides of this and going way.

Jonathan Stewart:

Wait, what the actual fuck is going on.

Jonathan Stewart:

Do I work hard or do I not.

Jonathan Stewart:

If I work too hard, I'm burning myself out, which obviously I don't really want.

Jonathan Stewart:

But if I don't work, I can't pay the bills, which means I don't want

Jonathan Stewart:

that either to be quite honest.

Jonathan Stewart:

So I used to go from one extreme to the other.

Jonathan Stewart:

I beat myself up for focusing on a new launch and not spending time

Jonathan Stewart:

with my two children and resting.

Jonathan Stewart:

Then when I completely crash, because when I get into things, I go hard because

Jonathan Stewart:

I love what I do I ended up beating myself up for not taking enough time

Jonathan Stewart:

or spending one night a week playing D and D or my local board game club or

Jonathan Stewart:

spending an hour, God forbid an hour playing a video game where my kids.

Jonathan Stewart:

So if I hustle, I'm doing something wrong and then if I rest, I'm

Jonathan Stewart:

also doing something wrong.

Jonathan Stewart:

Now, for those who don't struggle with this specific

Jonathan Stewart:

neuro spiciness, the response is:

Jonathan Stewart:

well, that's not what they mean.

Jonathan Stewart:

Okay.

Jonathan Stewart:

So what do they mean?

Jonathan Stewart:

Because this is the entire point.

Jonathan Stewart:

This is why I find binary's so frustrating.

Jonathan Stewart:

And unfortunately, it's all that spoken about in the productivity world.

Jonathan Stewart:

Either don't hustle or don't rest him much.

Jonathan Stewart:

Now, if this resonates with you, you'll know what I mean.

Jonathan Stewart:

And if you don't I'll see you next episode!

Jonathan Stewart:

In the end.

Jonathan Stewart:

I realized what I needed.

Jonathan Stewart:

I needed to recognize my own patterns to start from me and to work with

Jonathan Stewart:

the reality of the situation I'm in!

Jonathan Stewart:

We are bombarded by people telling us how to work and how not to work.

Jonathan Stewart:

But it always lacks context and nuance and completely forgets the

Jonathan Stewart:

individual's experience and needs.

Jonathan Stewart:

When in doubt.

Jonathan Stewart:

Always start from you.

Jonathan Stewart:

Struggling to figure out what that means.

Everyone talks about Simplicity as the WAY to do things. If you do less things, you think about less things, and therefore you can use your time more effectively. But doing less things doesn’t always feel like an option, and sometimes it doesn’t need to be an option.

Simplicity isn’t the thing you need to do first, it’s the result of knowing how you work.

You can have multiple projects and still plan other things you’re excited about!!

I help over-thinkers like you actually do shit without making you feel bad about all your projects and ideas.

I run a business, whilst running 6 D&D campaigns, looking after two disabled children (with my partner who works full time), and I’m always wanting to do more.
